Us DABAs have one favorite question, what’s for dinner. We may not know men, or how to handle the media, but we do know food. Below are some of our favorite recession friendly-ish eateries.

Best Mexican Takeout- La Esquina
14 Kenmare St., New York, NY 10012
at Lafayette St
646-613-7100
Megan says: “Get a selection of goodies, like the pollo rostizado, tortilla soup, and a bunch of different tacos delivered to your apartment. Everything is under $10, it’s yummy, goes great with Sunday night TV. And what boy doesn’t like Mexican?”

Best Lunch-Mercer Kitchen
99 Prince Street
New York, NY 10012
(212) 966-5454
Julie say “During the week there’s an amazing prix fix lunch here, just $24. The perfect Friday place to go when you and your FBF decide to play hooky from work.”

Best Onion Rings-Barrow Street Ale House
15 Barrow St.,
New York, NY 10012
between West 4th and 7th Ave.
212-691-6127
As some may know, Laney is an onion ring connoisseur of sorts. She claims that she could lead a walking-tour around the West Village focusing on onion rings. Barrow Street has her favorite “sports bar onion rings”, even though they charge a $1 for a side of ranch.

DABA on a Diet- Souen
210 Sixth Ave.,
New York, NY 10014
at Prince St.
212-807-7421
Finding guilt-free food in New York is like finding a free cab at 5:30 pm in the rain on 5th Ave. Souen is not only reasonably priced, it’s microbiotic and super healthy. Julie’s order is without fail the microbiotic plate, and Laney loves the pad-thai.

Best Brunch-The Smith
55 3rd Ave,
New York 10003
(Btwn 10th & 11th St)
(212) 420-9800
On Sundays, you can often find a table full of DABAs at The Smith having a hungover political debate over a plate of macaroni and cheese and chocolate chip cookies.
Best lobster shack (with wireless and cocktails)-Ditch Plains
29 Bedford St.,
New York, NY 10014
at Downing St.
212-633-0202
Home to many a DABA Girls dinner, the lobster rolls always take second stage to Rob the bartender’s cocktails and the “Ditch Dogs”- two hotdogs topped with creamy mac n’ cheese.

Best lobster shack- Ed’s Lobster Bar
29 Bedford St.,
New York, NY 10014
at Downing St.
212-633-0202
Laney, “I divide my life in two stages: pre-Ed’s Lobster roll and post-Ed’s Lobster roll, the post being infinitely better. Although, before delving in, take note that at thirty something dollars a pop, a lobster roll addiction is no laughing matter.”

Megan’s Date Place, Ivo and Lulus,
558 Broome St.,
New York, NY 10013
nr. Varick St.
212-226-4399
Megan, “This place is mini, but it’s BYOB and there’s no corkage fee. Everything on the menu is delish (unbelievably everything on the menu ranges from $12-$15) but the duck confit is my order of choice.”

Best Sushi-Tomoe Sushi,
172 Thompson St.,
New York, NY 10012
nr. W. Houston St.
212-777-9346
Hands down the best sushi (aside from the over-priced Nobu and Bond Street rolls) in the city. According to Laney, even the decor is authentic. We recommend the shrimp shu-mai, yellowtail and scallion roll, and spicy shrimp tempura roll.

Best Corn on the Cob- Cafe Habana
17 Prince St.,
New York, NY 10012
at Elizabeth St.
212-625-2002
On a summer night there’s nothing better than a corn on the cob and one of their spicy, sweet beer concoctions. Just make sure to check your teeth after, that corn can be tricky!

And the best for health here is the sushi bar http://tinyurl.com/sushi-bar or for lunch on the go, it’s much more convenient that lobster or BBQ, but then, do daba girls eat bbq?
-
Best cheap dinner, that doesn’t feel or taste cheap?
